Fabrication of a Stove Dome for a Steel Facility

  • Date Completed: August 2016

  • Location: River Rouge, MI

  • Weight: 99,450 lbs

  • Material: Heavy Painted Carbon Steel

Moran Iron Works was awarded the contract by a large steel producer to fabricate and barge-deliver a new stove dome to their facility on the Detroit River in River Rouge, Michigan. The dome was constructed from two modular sections, which were individually fabricated using advanced fixturing and automated welding techniques to maximize weld quality.

Once the fabrication was completed, MIW test-fitted the two sections to ensure proper alignment, which saves the client both time and cost through efficient field installation. The separate modules were then transported by truck along a High Wire Corridor to MIW’s Port Calcite facility on Lake Huron, where they were loaded onto a barge for shipment to Zug Island.
